Find a Clumber Spaniel Puppy

Make sure a Clumber Spaniel puppy is right for your lifestyle

Clumber Spaniels are kind, intelligent, loyal dogs with big personalities. They can be calm and dignified one minute and wonderfully mischievous the next.

Buying a Clumber puppy

Before you buy a puppy

Please take the time to consider the following.

Have you thought about the good and bad things about owning a Clumber Spaniel?
Do you really want a puppy? Or would an older dog be more suitable?
Have you been to see an adult Clumber Spaniel?
Will you be able to spend time with your new dog — training, socialising, playing and exercise?
Is your garden of an adequate size and suitably fenced?

Selecting a puppy

Take your time choosing

A few simple checks will help you choose a healthy, well-reared puppy.

Don’t rush

Look at more than one litter

Do not necessarily buy a puppy from the first litter you see.

Family

Ask to see the mother

Seeing the mother with her puppies tells you a lot about how they have been reared.

Health

Signs of a healthy puppy

A puppy should seem heavy for its size, smell clean and have bright, clear eyes, with no discharge from eyes, ears, nose or anus.

Age

At least 8 weeks old

The puppy should be at least 8 weeks old before leaving for its new home.

Bringing your puppy home

When you pick up your new puppy

A little preparation makes the first day easier for everyone, especially the puppy.

Ask the breeder

Before you leave

Make sure you are given a diet sheet with the puppy’s feeding regime.
Check when the puppy was last wormed and when it should next be wormed.
Ask about insurance, as vet bills are expensive.
Take someone with you to nurse the puppy on the journey home.

Paperwork

Documentation should include

Keep these safe — you will need them for registration, insurance and your vet.
